Travel Scrapbooks Make Great Mementos

Updated on May 26, 2014

Creating a keepsake of your holidays

Your vacation is over and you hit the post holiday blues as soon as you begin unpacking your bags. Instead of moping about why not gather up all those little mementos and souvenir ticket stubs and brochures you collected and turn them into something to share with your family and friends.

A travel scrapbook can even provide added motivation for saving for your next holiday by reminding you just why it is worth it. It is also a fantastic way to re-live all the fun things you did when you feel like reminiscing.

It's a great activity for you to do with your kids too.

Memories last long after the sun tan

Things to collect for your book

  • Tickets from the plane to the train... particularly the more unusual or colorful
  • Printed matter from your hotel - stationery, maps, brochure with images you can cut out
  • Menus and business cards from restaurants you ate at
  • empty packaging from local sweets and foods - Make sure it's not sticky ;-)
  • Currency - slightly less interesting now that half the world uses Euros
  • Tickets stubs and guides from museums and attractions - The Eiffel Tower and the Louvre were beautiful tickets
  • Beer or wine labels - my dad had a huge collection of these that we still have.
  • Restaurant bills or any other bill that is memorable - something that costs 10 times less or 10 times more than at home for example

Have you ever made a travel momento?

If you are a fan of the moleskins travel guides you will probably love this journal. It's really a combination of a planning tool, a journal and a scrapbook. There are useful things like packing lists, airport lists and calendars in the front - space to list the places you want to see and then blank pages to write and decorate. A little on the small side for some but a great choice for people who would like to try keeping a journal or scrapbook.
